We’re Scared of Being In Balance

During Chris Chavez‘s “Inversion Conversion” masterclass at Hamsa, he spoke about the idea of balance. Specifically about the idea that we don’t really like being in balance – on or off the yoga mat.

When we are out of balance, we feel resistance. We have something to work against. And we like that because we can then be in control. We can plan, strategize, and respond to something.
When we are in balance, however, we are free. There is no resistance. And that’s why we freak out – sending us off balance again.

When I am upside down and off-balance, I work hard to find that sweet spot. I press more into my hands. I engage my abs. Once I find that sweet spot though, I don’t feel the pressure of gravity … and, then I freak out.

On my little adventure through Scandinavia, I practiced not freaking out.
“Find the sweet spot. Don’t freak out. Hold it. Breathe.
Be free.”

Time to take it off the mat.
