With summer, and the long weekend, upon us, I can’t help but daydream of all the fun adventures ahead. With that in mind, I started looking into tips on how to maximize the little vacation days I have left and stumbled upon this article.
It looks at different research, applies it to taking vacations, and suggests that we:
- should take many short trips instead of a few long ones
- should interrupt our vacation to enjoy it more (e.g. leave the beach house for a few days to enjoy coming back to it more)
- should end the trip on a high note, as we remember how a trip ends more than how it begins
- should focus on who we travel with more than where we go (exotic destinations with annoying people just become more irritating)
- should enjoy the planning process – as we sometimes enjoy the planning and remembering of the trip more than actually taking the trip itself
- should do something we’ve never done before to remember the trip more vividly
I’d also add that while there is always that pressure to “go away” on your time off, a cost-effective and super enjoyable trip may simply be in your local neighbourhood. A little stay-cation if you will.
Hope these tips help you come alive in these beautiful months of sunshine.
