After reading this blog post and hearing about this amazing company, I was determined to do something of value on my birthday that would give back to my community. My original plan got…. well, delayed…. so I had to do some quick thinking to ensure the evening festivities remained just as exciting for my guests. (Original plans will be shared in a later post when they actually come to fruition.)
Over the course of the day, my inbox, answering machine, mailbox and Facebook wall got more love than they have ever seen all year! Which made me smile and laugh almost all day long. What a FANTASTIC way to spend your birthday, right?!?
But, why do we have to wait to make someone feel this great? Why delay the smiles that are anxiously waiting to burst? While thinking these thoughts, I came up with Plan B. I quickly ran out to get some large postcards and stamps before everyone started to pour into the apartment.
After glasses of wine and delicious dishes, the postcards were given out to everyone in the room. The instructions of what to do with them were simple:
Write a note to someone that would love to hear from you today. Someone who could use a reminder that you think highly of them. Someone you miss. Someone that could use your words of encouragement on their upcoming challenge. Either way, the message should bring a smile to their face.
Sometimes we focus on sharing all the warm thoughts about a person only on their birthday and forget that those words could be even more powerful when shared throughout the year. The presence of my friends on my birthday was the best present I could have received. And so in return, 20 individuals and organizations will have some great mail to look forward to reading.
Thank you again to all my friends and family that sent their warm wishes yesterday. It was your videos, wall posts, and long distance phone calls that helped write those postcards.
