Friendships for Life

This past weekend I travelled to Burlington, Vermont with Ange Cullen to visit my best friend Andrew Haas. He recently got back from almost 3 years in Asia (not consecutively, but it sure felt that way). Together, we had some of the best laughs I’ve had all summer! There is just something about a mountain hike, a Ben & Jerry’s factory tour, and a drive-in movie double bill with these two that makes me smile uncontrollably. Over dinner, we talked about how we all came into each other’s lives – how our friendship began – which got me thinking.

Growing up, I began friendships based on proximity. Classmates, floormates and neighbours created my social circle. When proximity left, so did these “tight-knight” friendship.
However, there are those individuals in our life that we’ve developed friendships with based on more than proximity. These friendships are based on hilarious memories, mutual admiration, and common value systems. These are the friendships that last a lifetime, regardless of how close or far away each person may be.

This weekend, and the great company, reminded me of the true value of friendships that know no geographic bounds.
Ange and Haas are two individuals I know I will always have in my life. And I couldn’t be happier!

Today, celebrate a great friend in your life by sending them a quick note to remind them how much they mean to you. It will certainly make their day and strengthen your friendship for life!
