My Style Statement: Bold Affinity
After my sis told me all about Danielle LaPorte and her book, I questioned (yet was drawn towards) the idea of a “Style Statement.” As C&D put it:
“Your Style Statement defines your authentic self. It is a compass for creating a life that reflects what’s true to you in every way. From your wisdom to your wardrobe, from your longings to your living room – your Style Statement is where your essence meets your expression. Based on the 80/20 principle, the first word represents your foundation, your 80%. The second word is your creative edge – the 20% of your image that motivates and distinguishes you.“
After Steph wrote about her style statement being Organic Vitality, I began to work through what mine was. Both to compare notes and also to see how different/alike we siblings truly were. Plus, after seeing WhiteHotTruth in action, I just had to get me some self-actualization going on.
In classic (and stubborn) Matt fashion, I tried not to look at the recommended list of foundation or creative words as I went through the book. I wanted to be unique and came up with my own words. As I talked it over with some great friends of mine, trying to put meaning behind these words, I realized that they lacked the true “heart” of me. I didn’t even want to spread the word proudly – which was NOT like me at all! They just didn’t capture my bi-polar love for innovation and tradition, for standing out while being part of a community, or for travelling the world but having a home base to go back to. They just didn’t bring the same umph and hutzpah that resonates so well with me.
After many pages of erased markings, I embraced my true Style Statement: BOLD AFFINITY.
Style Statement’s definition of Bold Affinity:
BOLD:
Bold has a strong warrior spirit that can translate into risk-taking, maverick ideas, and lively adventures. Go big, or go home. Do it right, or don’t do it at all. That’s Bold. Bold will automatically question established rules and set out to challenge whatever they perceive as unjust or sub-quality. They inquire; they look beneath the surface; they like to know the facts; they are wired to make an impact in whatever they do. They can be incredibly imaginative, and critical thinkers, and it’s their ability to get out of the box that makes them great trend spotters and assessors of what’s happening. Bold gravitates to people who can effect change, and can always identify a winning formula or the overacheiver in the room. In overdrive, Bold can be aggressive or imperceptive, which might lead to isolation – a less-than-ideal circumstance, because Bold prefers to be surrounded by people. They are quite comfortable with uncertainty because they know that they can draw on their own daring and multiple resources to fully embrace any situation. They are almost always sure that they’ve made the right choice. They focus forward. They take charge and persvere. Bold is sure to be noticed.
AFFINITY:
affection, alliance, appreciation, attraction, bond, combination, compatability, connection, fondness, friendship, kinship, likeness, meaning, network, reciprocity, resemblance, similarity, sympathy, worship
