Hair Today, TV Tomorrow

Taking time to treat yourself is an important aspect of life that I love to indulge in. I must be honest though, my indulgences are not very extravagant. To feel great I like to:
1) get my sweat on at Bikrams Yoga (or, in warmer weather, going for a solid ride on my bike)
2) have a little dance party in my room

3) cook a meal for friends when we’re not pressed for time (this usually results in great conversation and involves a tasty wine too)

4) and get a great haircut!

There is just something about a good haircut that really makes me smile. Maybe it’s the sense of a clean start that comes with the tweaking to my exterior image – or it could be the fact that I have found the coolest place to get your hair cut in Vancouver. Introducing the Chop Shop.

I gave up the Yaletown salons that are filled with pretentious hair dressers almost 4 years ago, for the “rock’n'roll hair salon” on downtown’s sketchy Granville strip that only hires hair artists. But, by looking at the creations they make out of their clients’ hair, they have definitely earned their artistic title. The reason why I love this place so much is that these artists are real people – they make snide remarks about each other, they have interesting lives outside of the shop, and they are extremely opinionated. And who doesn’t love someone who will tell it to you like it is! They provide noteworthy customer service while having tons of fun with their jobs. Especially my hairdresser Mishelle – she gets my full recommendation!

Yes, the pin-up girls on the walls and edgy posters may not make this the place for you and your mom to “get your hair done,” but it is the place to go for an incredible cut and some good times along the way. The Chop Shop was also asked to film a new reality series about the shop that should be airing Feb 4th on Slice Network.

Long story short, the Chop Shop, and their haircuts are worth noticing. When’s the last time you treated yourself to something remarkable?
