Free Hug Anniversary

On Dec 2nd, 2005, Laura Mehes (at that time, a resident on my floor in residence) and I decided that it was time to enjoy the holiday season. We were in the thick of exams, the stress was overwhelming, and the gray weather was taking over our once blue skies. Let’s not kid ourselves, December is not always the happiest time for any university student in Canada.

But instead of complaining about things or getting all worked up, we rallied the troops (armed with homemade posters of course) and headed downtown to give out Free Hugs to strangers. This was the result:

As this week marks the 3rd anniversary of this exciting day, I am reminded that despite all the craziness that is going on in your life (be it deadlines, exams, heartache, or year-end festivities), there is always someone nearby that wants a hug more than anything in the world. It’s that physical reminder that someone cares about you when you think no one does.

All we to do is just open our arms. The rest is easy!
