UBC Alumni Achievement Awards

November 13th saw 10 alumni take centre ice in the UBC Thunderbird Arena to receive the Alumni Association’s most prestigious awards. Everyone came dressed in their best “winter glam” outfits and enjoyed great food and drinks (Thunder The Influence martini anyone?) in even better company. I was quite impressed that the guest list of the evening (students, staff, faculty, and alumni) was a clear “who’s who” of UBC. Solid proof that great people know great people!

The most noteworthy speeches in my eyes were given by little Abraham Rogatnick (obviously – his quirky comments and sarcasm were utterly hysterical) and Christina Anthony, winner of the Outstanding Young Alumnus award. In her speech, she focused on how she continued to give back to students and helped enhance their university experience and their careers – because in the end “it is all about the students.” I couldn’t have said it better myself!
She also brought along her staff from Odlum Brown – mentioning that without them, she couldn’t do half of the things in the community as she has been able to do. Kudos to you Kimmie!

After the awards ceremony everyone headed to an incredible lounge area for more socializing and music… and wine. The “Apres Soiree” if you will. This was when I could finally meet some of the 100 students we invited to attend for free. Sorry that I didn’t head to the PIT with you all afterwards – I hope you all had an incredible evening though!

After all the guests had left, the Alumni Affairs staff were still chipper! Good work team!
